Activity

The main aim of the activity of JSC “Vilniaus Troleibusai” is to provide the inhabitants of Vilnius and guests of the capital with safe, punctual and attentive transportation and customer services.

259 trolleybuses provide transportation services on working days (in the year 2007), 130 trolleybuses – on Saturdays, 126 trolleybuses – on Sundays and public holidays. During the summer (June – August) 195 trolleybuses will operate on working days, 119 trolleybuses – on Saturdays, 116 trolleybuses – on Sundays and public holidays. The service covers 19 routes; the total length of lines amounts to 445 km. During the day trolleybuses travel for 53032 km and transport about 40000 passengers.

In order to fulfil the main tasks of our activity, the staff of the company performs the following functions:

• Organisation of public transport traffic along the planned routes in compliance with transportation schedules
• adjustment, specification and change of the trolleybus itinerary routes (during road works, reconstruction of bridges or elimination of other obstacles, obstructing the traffic of trolleybuses)
• continuous control of the trolleybus traffic using a computerised system of traffic control that operates through channels of mobile communication
• inspection and control of the drivers’ work (Are passengers transported in safety and comfort? Are bus stops announced in a timely and accurate manner? Are the safety regulations complied with?)
• organisation of refresher courses for trolleybus drivers, as well as preparatory courses for future trolleybus drivers
• technical support and repair of transportation vehicles
• advertising and rental services for the inhabitants of Vilnius.

The first trolleybus starts operating at 3:57 in the morning and the last one returns at 00:24 at night.
